My name’s Dan Oliver, and I’m a UK-based journalist and editor. I currently work at .net magazine – having joined as editor in 2006 – and am now editor-in-chief. In 2010/2011 I oversaw the redesign and development of the .net magazine website at www.netmagazine.com. You should check it out, it’s OK. (If you’d like to read a quite exhaustive list of my accomplishments then please take a few moments to visit my LinkedIn profile. Alternatively, you can just send me an email.)
In my capacity as a word churner, I have written for a number of publications including: the Sunday Times, the Guardian, the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United Magazine, T3, PC Format, Mac Format, the Institute of Directors Magazine, and many more.
As well as extensive writing and editing experience, I have also been interviewed by the BBC (who hasn’t?!), hosted a panel at SXSW (eek!), presented the annual .net Awards (fun), and judged on industry panels including www.thefwa.com and The BIMA awards (professional). Whilst working at Future Publishing I have won two in-house awards: the Journalist of the Year Award (2001), and Best Practical Feature (2004).
Specialities
Having trained as a journalist for three years – and spent the following 14 years working in magazines, newspapers, and online – I can write, edit, and commission content across many areas; however, I specialise in all things web design and tech. Areas I’ve reported on in detail include: web culture, internet security, hackers with guns, web design, digital photography, hardware/game/site/app/movie reviews – and, as I’m obliged to say, much more. I also have experience in content strategy, marketing, brand development and public speaking.
Twitterings
I talk about the above, and all manner of unrelated flotsam via my Twitter account. Like most Twitter accounts, it has no value, and I regularly post drunken messages about my favourite mammals, and celebrities that I’d like to wrestle. What’s that? You, too? Then maybe we could be friends.
